Rewilding and Ecology

“The whole of life is coming to terms with yourself and the natural world. Why are you here? How do you fit in? What’s it all about?”

― Sir David Attenborough

Rewilding @ NUS

  • Drafted management guidelines on campus rewilding and greening, as part of a pilot project to extend a new campus greenery typology developed by NUS, to Ministry of Education (MOE) schools.
  • Involved in outreach for interested MOE schools with the target of bringing them on board the rewilding programme.
  • Participated in Planting Days with faculty to work on maintenance and plant identification within a garden plot.

Ecological Sampling

I learnt to identify tropical forest plants, assess plant growth (diameter at breast height) and seedling recruitment from modules taken under the Life Science and Botany minors.

Knowledge and Skills

Writing of Management Guidelines

I learnt to write frameworks that guide the establishment and maintenance of less-manicured campus greenery.

Stakeholder Engagement

I learnt to craft presentations that appeal to external stakeholders, to bring them on board a common goal which in this case, is the creation of wilder gardens that cater to local biodiversity and outdoor learning for students.
